I always thought I needed to have a goal for working out. I figured I would just stop doing it if I didn’t have one. I also feared the day I would get lazy, and end up a 50ish guy with a beer belly and no desire to change. However, I’m finding that as I connect my body to my mind and see the true benefits exercise brings to my life, it is actually something I can’t live without.
Fitness is a whole lot more than big arms and a six-pack. It can be a lifestyle, with a holistic approach that helps bring positivity and progress into a person’s life. Fitness is about taking care of the whole system, because when the body is strong and energized, the mind will follow. The two cannot work optimally without one another, and now I see that being healthy and fit is a life long commitment that cannot be taken for granted.
We all owe it to ourselves to be in the best possible shape as we age and go through life’s endless transitions, because working out is one of the few variables we can control. No matter what a person’s circumstance, there is some kind of physical activity they can perform that will sharpen their mind, increase their energy and have their bodies feeling stronger and ready to face all the challenges that life has to offer.
I urge you to stick to your current workout regimen, or start a new one if you don’t exercise, and don’t let life get in the way. Pick a time every day to put yourself and your fitness first, and the challenges in your life will get a whole lot easier. If, as a result, there is an increase in muscle tone and reduction in body fat, I don’t think anyone will be complaining!
